The Ada 95 Transition Planning Template

The purpose of this planning template is to complement the transition planning process and guidance discussed in this guide with the structure to document the information in the form of a worksheet for an organization embarking on the transition to Ada 95. Sections should be deleted or added to this template as deemed appropriate by the PEO or PM directing the transition effort.

1.0    Introduction

1.1    Scope

The purpose of the (project name) ____________________ is to identify transition needs, activities, and risks for the initial planning phase of the Ada 95 transition effort of the (program name) ___________________. The (project name) ____________________ Transition Planning Worksheet provides guidance for the transition team during the initial planning phase of the transition effort.

1.2    Document Overview

The (project name) _____________________ Transition Planning Worksheet identifies and documents the transition needs, activities, and risks for the initial planning phase of the Ada 95 transition effort:

1.3    Relationship To Other Plans

The (project name) ___________________ Transition Planning Worksheet complements the following project management plans: _____________________________________, ______________________, and _________________. The role of this plan in the project life cycle is discussed in the following paragraph(s): ___________________.

2.0    Referenced Documents

The following documents were used in the development of the (project name) _________________ Transition Planning Worksheet: _________________________________

3.0    Needs Assessment

The information compiled in sections 3.1 through 3.3 is the basis for the initial needs of the (project name) ____________________ to successfully complete the transition effort.

3.1    Transition Objectives

The following table contains the (program name) ____________________'s expected benefits of the transition to Ada 95 and their relative importance to the program.

3.2    Existing Baseline

The following table contains an objective assessment of the facilities required for the (project name) ______________________'s transition effort. The advantages and disadvantages listed in the table represent bonuses and gaps in the organization that can be exploited or need to be corrected for the transition effort.

3.3    Transition Needs

Sections 3.3.1 through 3.3.4 identify the activities to resolve the gaps and issues of the (program name) ___________________ necessary to successfully complete the transition effort.

3.3.1    Staffing Needs

The following bullets reflect the initial staffing actions necessary to define the needs statement for the transition.

3.3.2    Compiler Needs

The following bullets reflect the initial compiler actions necessary to define the needs statement for the transition.

3.3.3    Tools Needs

The following bullets reflect the initial tool requirements necessary to define the needs statement for the transition.

3.3.4    Platform Needs

The following bullets reflect the initial requirement of the existing hardware and software platform necessary to define the needs statement for the transition.

4.0    Transition Approach

Section 4.1 through 4.2 document the technical and management activities that are critical in establishing the direction and intent of the (project name) ____________________ transition effort. The constraints of the activities have been uniquely identified for the (project name) ____________________ and will need to be addressed to ensure the success of the transition effort.
