DON'T MISS TRI-Ada `95
TRI-Ada `95, the Ada industry's largest conference and exhibition, will be held next week, November 5-10, 1995, in Anaheim, CA at the Disneyland Convention Center. The theme of this year's conference is "Ada's Role in Global Markets: Solutions for a Changing Complex World." Tutorials, workshops and over 55 Ada vendors and exhibitors will offer a variety of information to Ada veterans as well as newcomers. As this has been a pivotal year with the advent of Ada 95, TRI-Ada should prove to be a pivotal event for the Ada community.

October's Defense & Security Electronics featured an article titled "Achieving the Promise of Object-Oriented Software," that discussed Ada 95 as providing a better mechanism for achieving the benefits of OO software. The article also discussed the emergence and fielding of sound OO standards, such as CORBA (Common Object Request Broker Architecture) and IDL (Interface Definition Language).
With the Object Management Group's (OMG) IDL-to-Ada 95 standard, Ada software developers will be able to make use of commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) software packages, without the time consuming and expensive task of designing and writing interfaces/bindings to those COTS products. Through IDL specifications and compilers, interoperability between software objects implemented in different languages is nearly assured.
The article states that a key to success is software products which are based on useful, widely supported international standards that enable developers and users to achieve high levels of reuse, portability, maintainability, flexibility and interoperability. Object-oriented technologies have the potential to contribute to those desirable attributes. Since object-oriented designs have to be written and implemented in code, Ada 95 becomes extremely valuable.
