Ada RECOGNIZED AS SMART ALTERNATIVE
The recent DoD movement toward Commercial Off-the-Shelf (COTS) purchases has affected not only software acquisition but the choice of hardware as well. Recognizing the growing appeal of less expensive, commercially oriented versions of popular military processors, Tartan has focused on enhancing its Ada products.
In early April, along with the release of the i960 V5.1 product line, Tartan will be making available an Ada Development System for the i960 KB processor. Initially, it will be supported on the Sun SPARC host only.
The i960 KB offers the hardware support for the IEEE standard floating-point package that implements instructions for elementary functions along with the basic load-and-store architecture typical of many RISC processors. For many customers, Ada is the more reliable, less costly solution.
