Ada 95 Textbook
& Compiler Package

The Addison Wesley publishing company and Thomson Software Products have teamed up to produce an Ada 95 textbook and compiler package for educational use.

Textbook/Compiler Package Available to the Public

Addison Wesley and Thomson Software Products released an Ada 95 textbook and compiler package aimed at the student community. The package is available to the general public for educational, experimental, and personal use without restriction. Available on CD-ROM, the package consists of the second edition of "Ada 95: Problem Solving and Program Design," by Michael B. Feldman and Elliot B. Koffman, a special edition of the ObjectAda compiler, a debugger, a library manager, and on-line help.

The CD-ROM operates on personal computers and workstations running Windows 95 or Windows NT. Recommended RAM is 12 megabytes; recommended disk space is 100 megabytes; recommended processor is 100 MHz Pentium, but the CD-ROM can be run on a 486.

The Textbook

"Ada 95: Problem Solving and Program Design" is an introductory computer science textbook. Students need little or no programming experience to learn Ada with this comprehensive approach to learning Ada. The book includes complete, compatible, executable programs; case studies; syntax and programming style displays; section exercises; and error discussions and chapter reviews. The text emphasizes "object thinking" by introducing and reinforcing object-oriented programming concepts and designs throughout. The book is oriented to a beginning student, but includes additional material well-suited for an advanced first course or as part of a second course.

The Compiler

The Special Edition ObjectAda compiler - the first Ada 95 compiler validated for Windows - allows maximum 2000 lines of code for Ada source file, maximum 20 task objects per program, and maximum 35 program units per program. The compiler is fast and disk-efficient. No site license is needed; full commercial license is available separately through Thomson (for more information contact Sandra Golez-Meiley at meily@ide.com).
