ABSTRACT

Reusability Guidelines

This technical report proposes guidelines for the design and coding of reusable software parts. The proposed guidelines are intended for use by the STARS Prime Contractors and Subcontractors to foster the development of software components that offer common capabilities within well-defined application domains and that are suitable for installation in a library of reusable parts. The requirements presented by the guidelines are directed principally to software developers and, secondarily, to maintainers of a reusable parts library. Each proposed guideline or requirement is accompanied by a rationale, and where possible, illustrative examples. The guidelines are based upon STARS task Q9 experience and interpretations of the materials listed in the references section of the report.
