ABSTRACT

Microsoft Word for Windows Templates for creating MIL-STD-498 Data Item Descriptions

This is a set of 22 templates that can be installed into the Microsoft Word for Windows 6.0 or the Microsoft Word for Windows 95 environment in order to provide a convenient way to create MIL-STD-498 documents. When so installed, the user can create a new document, such as a Software Requirements Specification or Software Design Description, by simply clicking on File/New and then selecting the appropriate template from the list presented. The template, complete with cover page, page headings and footers, table of contents, and document outline with embedded instructions then appears as a Word document for further tailoring by the user.

This collection of templates is a project undertaken by the author and is not in any way an officially-sanctioned part of the 498 standard. Great care was taken, however, to accurately present the information in the 498 DIDs in these templates.

These templates are in use by faculty and students of the Software Engineering Department at Monmouth University to create documentation for class projects, thesis projects, and research projects.
