Instructions:
COURSE ABSTRACT: The purpose of this course is to explore contemporary topics in software reuse, including the impact of Object-Oriented Design and Programming with Ada83, Ada95, C++, and Domain Engineering on the software development process. The course will concentrate on the practical aspects of applying architecture-centric, domain-specific, library- based reuse methodologies integrated with the software development process to create Ada83, Ada95, and C++ systems in an efficient, cost-effective manner. Libraries of object-based reusable software components will be used to design and implement solutions to problems. The course will illustrate how object-oriented and domain engineering techniques coupled with domain-specific libraries and Ada83, Ada95, and C++ can be used to effectively develop significant software systems in a short period of time, frequently realizing reuse on the order of 70% or more. Topics (with estimated percentage of the class time):
The course is half lecture and half laboratory. DEC Ada and DEC C++ will be used on a DEC Alpha computer system for the laboratory.
INTENDED AUDIENCE: System architects, designers, programmers, graduate students.
PRE-REQUISITE: Experience in Ada and C or approval of the instructor or faculty advisor.

Most of the reading material is available in the PAL and not included in this distribution. You can find the material in the PAL by using the PAL Catalog or Card Catalog. The reading material not in the PAL is mainly in the form of magazine articles. The sources of these articles are given in the Lesson Plan and cover pages for the reading material. The code used in the lab includes CS Parts and the Aflex/Ayacc tool pair. These can be found in the PAL.
