Object-Oriented Language & Development Environment: Forté / TOOL
Intro
The Forté Application Environment provides on object-oriented multi-tier
development environment designed for producing scaleable enterprise applications.
Applications are built as a monolithic system, and then partitioned onto
various platforms to distribute processing to the proper system, provide
load balancing, or to utilize platform specific features.
The Forté Application Environment currently uses its own language,
called TOOL. The next major release will also support Java as its
development language in addition to TOOL. A Java only development system is now available
as Forte For Java (formerly called SynerJ). Visit the

site for a free version of the Java development tool.
Forté runs on a variety of platforms including Windows 95, Windows
NT, Macintosh, HP-UX, Solaris, DG/UX, AIX DYNIX, OpenVMS, Digital Unix,
and OS/390. Databases supported include Oracle, Sybase, Informix,
Open Ingress, MS Acess, ODBC, DB2, and RDB. External interfaces provided
include Apple Events, DCE, ObjectBroker, ActiveX, OLE, Java, OrbixWeb,
and VisiBroker.
